LinkedIn New Profile Webinar Now Available A week ago I did the a 2 hour 20 minute webinar on the new LinkedIn Profile. It was awesome. I planned to do 90 minutes but there were lots of questions submitted before, and lots coming in during the webinar. I think I answered all of them. How to Write a Service Writing Resume For ChildrenService writing resume or resumes for different types of business is not an easy task. It's not only because you don't know where to start. You also have to be good at what you do, because not all the projects that you see are going to be the same, right? So how can you come up with a resume for a child's school soccer club?Schools have different programs. Some are put in place to help children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Others are put in place to help children from upper socioeconomic backgrounds. You have to be prepared for everything you get. You can't jump into things without knowing what you're doing first.If you get a proposal from a potential client, make sure you check for legality and policy. The children that you're dealing with might be old enough to get out of a bad contract. It's important that you're up to date on everything related to contracts. This way you'll avoid any problems that might occur.Make sure you research the children's areas that the clients need to go to. It's not going to be just a uniform. The client might need to meet the coach of the team or to have their child in school. Knowing the needs of the kids that you'll be dealing with will help you provide the best service possible. This will also help you find clients for your services.Ask yourself, would the children's soccer coaches hire you? If the answer is no, then you should find something else to do with your time. Make sure you always do your research before accepting anything.For high school students, it's likely that the school has some clubs or groups that are open to hiring new people for internships or other work. This is great, especially for the younger students who might not want to go through the hassle of getting contracts, but may want to give the experience a try. It doesn't hurt to try and it is free.If you want to get started early, then it's better to start working on your education in the school year , so that you can make up time later. For instance, if you're already in high school, you can go straight to college and make sure you're well prepared for it. Another option would be to look for part-time jobs and work as many hours as you can.Service writing resumes for children are hard, but with the right information and determination, it can be done. Givers Gain Leverage Your Network Without Abusing It - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Steve Boyle runs a cool nonprofit called No Excuses, No Regrets Basketball (the site is being redesigned right now, so follow him at @SteveBoylenenr if you want more information). The organization is dedicated to motivating players to achieve academic success and to be a better person on and off the court (Im paraphrasing here). Needless to say, Steve is facing the same difficulties as every other nonprofit: trying to build a base of donors, volunteers, and members while raising funds. So he has the same old problem, which he posed to me in an email: How do you find the happy medium between taking advantage of your contacts one has built in  their  respective network yet not seem as if youre looking a gift horse in the mouth? This is the problem everyone who tries to build a personal brand or grow their business faces. Whether youre raising funds for your nonprofit, trying to find a job, or telling your friends about this great new MLM you just joined. (Hint: dont bug your friends about your MLM, at least if you want to keep them.) Ancient philosophy of give to receive This is where Givers Gain becomes important. Givers Gain, a philosophy espoused by BNI, says that the more you give, the more you gain. If you help someone achieve their goals, you will be helped in return. Its important to note that this help will not be reciprocal, nor does it have to be. In other words, just because I help you doesnt mean you owe me. You dont have to help me in return. Instead, you go along with life, and help other people. Help them achieve their goals, help them make a networking connection, help them find a new job, or whatever. Then, let them go about their own lives, also helping other people. Here is where you, the Giver, will Gain for your efforts: The person you help may connect you with someone who can help you, or plug you into an opportunity that is just right for you. (Okay, that one is reciprocal, but remember, you dont help others so they have to help you.) Generosity breeds generosity. Your generous act enables someone else to be generous, which, in turn, enables someone else to be generous. Ive seen an act of generosity returned to someone months and even years later, through a chain of several people. You establish a reputation as being someone who helps a lot of people. People who are generous attract people who are also generous. These people are willing to share their network, their knowledge, and their business, which can turn into new opportunities for you. You will feel awesome. I heard from two different people last week that some advice I had given them had really paid off in a huge way, and I felt great for the rest of the day. Nothing, and I mean nothing, feels better than knowing you made a major impact on someones life. So what does all this mean for Steve? How can he leverage his network without them feeling like hes hitting them up for more money. Servants heart Easy. Ask this question every time you meet with someone: How can I serve you? Or if youre not comfortable with this phrasing, What can I help you with? (And you have to mean it.) This attitude of service, of helping, means that you have to be willing to help someone achieve their goals. Lets say Steve hears about an opening for an internship at an athletic apparel company, and he also knows someone looking for an internship, Steve can connect the two of them. Dave, I want to introduce you to Kevin. Hes looking for a marketing internship this summer, and I think he would be great for your company. Ive known him for three years, and found him to be a hard-working young man. Can I have him call you? Or if someone needs a speaker for an event, Steve can connect an alum of No Excuses, No Regrets who has gone on to do great things as a result: Betty, I heard youre looking for a speaker for your next luncheon. My friend, Kelly, was in my No Excuses, No Regrets program, and has gone on to play college basketball, and may go pro. I think she would be an excellent speaker for your event. Do you want her email? So, Steve has done something special for Kevin and Kelly, but he has also helped out Dave and Betty. He provided them with something they needed, and never mentioned something he wanted. He helped them achieve their goal â€" finding a college intern, finding a speaker â€" as well as helping his two players achieve theirs. He should also spend time over coffee or lunch with people in his network, learning more about them, and learning how he can serve/help them. This is a common practice for a lot of nonprofit fundraisers â€" get to know your network and how you can help them â€" and you can make these connections on a regular basis. By serving as this Connector (read Malcolm Gladwells The Tipping Point for more on Connectors), Steve is able to maintain contact with his network and provide them value, but not have to ask for a single dime. As a result, Steve will begin to see more opportunities for him and his organization through his network, which are more than willing to share their networks with him. 5 Ways to Prepare Your Workplace for Generation Z The time has come for Generation Z to enter the workplace. Thats an estimated 73 million new professionals to prepare for, and it’s not going to be easy. Just like every generation of people, they have their own preferences, outlooks, and conditions that make them unique. The term Generation Z, or iGeneration, is classified as those who were born in the mid-90’s to early 2000s, and it’s time you started prepping your workplace to cater for twenty-somethings who are techy, creative, innovative, and most importantly ready to make a difference. Preparing for them is different to what youve previously experienced with the millennials that preceded them, and heres what they will expect when they enter your workforce. 1. Offer career growth This current generation of professionals will be centered on the growth they can endure with your company. How can they get to where they want to be through your company? Are you offering them continuous learning, development and challenges so that they can reach their goals? These are the questions you should be asking yourself. Generation Z is constantly thinking about their own aspirations and plans for the future. What they want from you is hard work and to be given the tools to succeed, so that they can get to where they want to be. 2. Embrace competitiveness Unlike millennials who enjoy the collaborative nature of work, Generation Z has been found to  be much more independent and competitive. This generation is applying for jobs thinking that they need to beat the next guy or girl to get there. Something along the lines of if you want something done right, do it yourself. Ernst Young ran a multigenerational survey  of 1,800 people in the United States in order to gain insights into Gen-Z and found that the majority of them have a do-it-myself mentality and a real entrepreneurial  spirit. They have seen people their  own age create successful companies, and this independent mindset is showing within their attitude to work. 3. Build a tech-centered workplace Generation Z has grown up within the boom of technology, in a world where it is at the forefront of almost everything they do. According to David Stillman, a Gen-Z expert, 90.6% of Gen-Z said a companys technological sophistication would impact their decision to work there. Technology is essential to them to stay connected with the world, and a workplace that relies on old technology simply wont cut it. If you want to attract a young, bright and motivated professional you will need to continuously upgrade your workplace’s technology to do so. 4. Communicate face-to-face Surprisingly while Generation Z might be more immersed in technology compared to generations that preceded them, they have been found to prefer face-to-face communication over digital communication. So drop whatever social messaging service you use at work, as David Stillman claims that 84% of Gen-Z prefer up-front communication because of the transparent nature of it, and the honesty that it provides. They want their co-workers and leaders to look them in the eye and tell them what they are doing right or what they are doing wrong and establish a real professional connection with them. Funnily enough, though, an American study  found that the average attention span in 2015 was 8.25 seconds and it has been decreasing by the year. So good luck trying to get your point across to a Gen-Zer in 8 seconds! 5. Motivate them with money While making a difference and growing their personal career is of the utmost importance to Gen-Z, they are also motivated by money. A lot of Gen-Zers grew up in the Great Recession where they experienced their family and parents lose their jobs, and the struggle they faced has caused them to value money differently to millennials who were less concerned with how much money they can make. Generation Z, while they are the most technologically advanced generation of all time, have a very cut-throat approach to work. They want to win, they want to succeed, they want to make money and they want to have the best tools at their disposal. That being said, we now have four different generations in the work place; Baby Boomers, Gen-X, Millenials, and Gen-Z. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I think people will appreciate the forward thinking, hard work, and transparency that Generation Z will bring to the work place.

Employers will look at the type of degree you chose and use that to determine the type of person you are and whether you are suitable for their workplace. However, education students with a high level of knowledge may talk down to people without realizing. It takes some time to hone the skills to teach and build up the knowledge. Employers may be worried that not enough life experience has been gained to handle the situations that can arise. The View of Medical Degrees Medicine is another difficult subject for students. It takes years to master the craft and then specialize in an area. The benefit of such a difficult degree is showing the willingness to dedicate time to work and take on tasks that are challenging. Medical students generally have the best grades in school and are extremely hard working. Employers may see individuals with medical degrees as overqualified and could possibly overlook their job applications. It is also possible for employers to worry that these individuals have high goals and expectations, and may look to be hastily promoted. Before choosing a degree, think of the pros and cons and how employers may view you. You should also do this when completing your CV.
